In & Out Prices (Not the Burger Joint)

So, I've noticed for awhile now that at almost all chain coffee places drinks and food items are priced differently depending on where you plan on eating it (just a measly 10p difference, but still!). If you plan on drinking inside the shop then the price is more expensive than if you were to get it to-go. This got me wondering if this is common in the States as well. I can't really remember.

Even Starbucks, which, of course, is in the USA, charges the different in and out prices here. Other popular coffee chains in England are Caffè Nero and Costa, if you were wondering.

Furthermore, I would think a coffee to-go would be more expensive to make up for the price of the container. Right?

  1. I noticed the price differences when we used to eat froyo (frozen yogurt if you have already forgotten). They charge you more if you eat in house because you have to pay for tax and not if you take it togo (edible items).
